Drecco
Drecco wanted to blame it on the alcohol, but the truth was, he missed Courtney. A week had passed since she cut him off, and he’d been thinking about her nonstop. Tonight, he’d met up with a few of his siblings at Hakeem’s compound. Christian decided to move her wedding date up to ensure their grandmother, Ever, would be able to attend. She and Nash invited everyone over to tell them the news and decide on a date, and Hakeem’s place was the safest place for them all to meet.
Benjamin was still lurking in the shadows, and they didn’t know when he’d pop up or what he would do. Drecco had more to drink than he normally would in hopes that the alcohol would dissolve thoughts of Courtney, but the opposite happened. He was thinking about and craving her more. This was the first time she’d actually made strides to have nothing to do with him, and Drecco felt some type of way because of that.
For the past year, he and Courtney were in each other’s beds and on each other’s heads nonstop. Even when they were fighting or he was fucking other people they never let a full seven days go by without speaking. Without hearing her voice… Drecco didn’t know what the fuck to do.
When he pulled up in front of her townhome, Drecco cut his car off and stared at her front door. Before leaving his brother’s place, he texted her and told her he was out and about. Courtney told him to text her when he was a few minutes away and she’d set his things out at the front door. His eyes shifted to the car that was in her driveway, and for a brief moment, Drecco considered the idea of her having another man there.
Had she moved on already?
Just the thought had his nostrils flaring as he got out, slammed the door, and made his way to her front door. After banging on it, he stepped back and waited for her to open up. When she did, it was with big eyes and wild hair. Courtney pulled her cotton robe tightly around her body, staring him down and back up his tall frame again.
“Have you lost your mind?” she yelled softly. “Why are you banging on my damn door?”
“Who car in the driveway? Bet not be another nigga in this fucking house.”
“And so what if it is? That has nothing to do with you.”
“Everything you do got some to do with me!” Drecco countered louder than he’d planned to. Pulling in a deep breath, he willed his body to relax and nerves to settle.
Courtney scoffed with a shake of her head. “I’m convinced you’ve lost your mind. As many women as you had sex with while we were talking, you can’t possibly be standing here upset about me entertaining someone now that we are not?”
Drecco gently pushed her to the side and stepped into her home. “Tell that nigga he gots to go. I’ll wait down here while you do.”
Courtney followed him into her living room, tugging at his arm the entire way. “You need to leave, Drecco. I’m not putting him out.”
“Either you can, or I can.” He shrugged as he plopped down on her sofa. “Either way, he got about three minutes to get the fuck up outta here before I get upset.”
“Upset?” Courtney repeated with a chuckle. “Do you hear how crazy and hypocritical you sound right now?”
Drecco slipped out of his shoes and crossed his ankles atop her glass coffee table. “Call it what you want. Just get that nigga out of here.” He looked up at her, unfazed by her hard stare and flaring nostrils. “Now.”
Grumbling under her breath, Courtney stormed away and headed upstairs. Licking the corner of his mouth, Drecco pulled his phone out and dialed his twin brother’s number. If Donovan was going straight home, there was a good chance he was there by now. Of the two, Donovan was the calm and logical brother. He analyzed everything—even love.
“Whadup?” Donovan answered.
“I need you to call the cleaning service and have them on standby just in case I make a mess tonight,” Drecco said.
Though they had a software downloaded on all their phones to let them know if there was a wiretap or third caller on the line, Drecco still spoke in code whenever he had to discuss business. He didn’t know who was in the house and what type of time the man would be on. Just in case he had to lay him out, Drecco wanted to make sure his brother had a cleanup crew on standby to take care of his mess if need be.
“Where you at?”
“At Courtney’s house. She got some nigga up in here like she single or some shit.”
Donovan chuckled. “She is, and even if she wasn’t, how many women did you fuck off with while y’all were talking?”
Sucking his teeth, Drecco shook his head as he relaxed further in his seat and draped his arm across the back of the sofa.
“That ain’t got shit to do with the situation at hand. It don’t matter what I did; she ain’t fucking no other niggas.”
“Sis finally giving you a taste of your own medicine, huh?”
Ignoring his brother’s statement, Drecco said, “Just have the team on standby like I said,” before disconnecting the call.
